What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a recreational sport in which players
attempt to eliminate each other using 6mm
plastic BBs in a simulated environment. Often,
gameplay is compared to paintball. The BBs are
fired by non-lethal replica firearms, and come in
configurations such as pistols, rifles, shotguns,
and sniper rifles. Gameplay can consist of many
different modes, from Team Deathmatch, Capture
the Flag, and Domination to more complex modes
like Hostage Rescue, Bomb plant, or Attack and
The contrast from paintball, is that rather than the ability to have the ammo mark a target when they are hit, airsoft relies on an “Honor System”, in which it is the ethical duty of the person who has been hit to call themselves out, regardless of whether or not anyone saw it happen.
Being shot by an airsoft gun is similar to the sensation of being pinched or being stung. If skin is exposed and shot, it may have the chance of getting a welt at the point of impact. There are a lot of variables, the closer you are the more it will hurt. Most fields, such as ours, have a minimum engagement distance in which players are not allowed to shoot, but are to call out loudly “Safety Kill” or “Bang Bang” to simulate shooting the player to avoid being too close. Sometimes, players may not register their hits, whether it’s because it hit loose clothing, a plate carrier, or is just a decent distance away where the BB has a smaller impact. Many players will shoot a few extra shots at a player they believe can’t feel it, so it is common when a player is shot they will be hit more than once.
Airsoft is an active sport, so it is essential to prepare like you are playing any other sport. Hydration is key. We heavily recommend bringing plenty of water. The field does get hot, and gameplay can be tiring, staying on top of hydrating is of utmost importance. On hot days, refrain from heavy clothing/multiple layers. Make sure to bring some snacks/food as well. Even though we serve food, snacks will be helpful for maintaining energy between meals.
Airsoft is a good means of being active and out of the house; rather than playing videogames all day players get to live them out on an airsoft field. It is also a good opportunity to make friends and be social with people that have the same hobby as them. Players will need to work as a team to accomplish objectives in the games that are played, so it enables socialization.
